Thrills and spills were provided on Saturday by the pram race at Bradshaw Parents Association fete in which two men were injured. Roger Wilde was treated for a cut arm and Bob Priestley for a cut finger at the Royal Halifax Infirmary after their prams up-tipped during the race.
Seven prams were due to take part in the race, but after a technical hitch when one was found to be unsafe, only six set off.
Members of Bradshaw Groundhogs football team rode in the prams dressed as babies and were pushed by five women and one man in drag for about a quarter of a mile from Bradshaw Tavern to the fete at Bradshaw Junior School. The race was won by Mr. Steve Ellis pushed by Miss Suzie Hoyle. His prize was £10 and he gave £5 to the fete's funds and spent £5 on drinks for the teams. The fete, held to raise funds for the school was attended by about 300 people and there were stalls at the school. One organisor, Mr. Stanley Richardson, said they would not know the final figure of the amount raised for some time.
