Did you know the period of gestation for an African Bush Elephant is 655 days? That is to say, the period between conception and birth is 93.5 weeks or 1.8 years! Birth Day is when the product of this process is seen for the first time and when a name is given. We are soon to celebrate the 50th " Birth Day" of .....

We joined the Halifax Sunday League for the 1972/73 season, starting in the 4th Division. We gained promotion in our 1st year, though only by default (a club in a higher league had folded). However, we were off, and the winning of the Division 3 title the next season came easily, and although a bit tougher the next season, we finished as Champions of Division 2.. Next season, the 1st team established itself in the top tier and at the end of the 1977 / 1978, the ultimate ambition was achieved. You've guessed, Yes, Champions of Division 1.
The success of the club also attracted interest with local footballers, and in the clubs second season, had enough players to run a Reserve side. It soon started to emulate and follow in the footsteps of the 1st team. Success came to both teams.
Changes came, first to the hosting venue and even a change of name to Ivy House before it's last participation in the Halifax Sunday League as "Groundhogs 97".
Now, some 48 years later, having started a group on Facebook, the energy and spirit of this great club has been re-ignited with pictures and stories from those glorious days of the 70's and 80's. We trust that we can give a true reflection of those times, here on our website.

The 1st appearance of the football team in the village of Bradshaw was the challenge between some younger members of the cricket club, pub regulars of the Bradshaw Tavern, to make up a team and take on the cricket club in the spring of 1972. Little did we know at the time, that this was to be the start of something very special....
With great enthusiastic support, the Groundhogs was founded with major contributions from many local residents, though critical to the success of the club was the support given by the Landlord and Landlady of the Bradshaw Tavern, the late Norman and Ida Sutcliffe, and of course, it’s regulars. This allowed the club to create excellent changing facilities, not to mention the adjacent hospitality, available after games on a Sunday lunchtime.
The Club continued to be based at the Tavern until the Season 1988 / 1989, when they relocated to The Ivy House in Holmfield. Although initially they continued to play at Bradshaw Recreation Park, the league requested they move and so commenced playing at the Old Army Camp at Beechwood Park.
In 1994, a new landlord at the Ivy House advised the club that he would only sponsor them if they changed their name to Ivy House. This didn't really work out and with very little connection to Bradshaw, the club tried one more season in 1997 / 1998 as "Groundhogs 97", but after that season, the Hogs were no more!

To celebrate the foundation of this great local village team in the north of Halifax, West Yorkshire, based around the Bradshaw Tavern.
To bring together, the vast number of special people who made it not only a special football club, but also gave us great times. and in a social environment, which we doubt, will never be bettered. In practical terms, it is fair to say that the club we created, stopped being the club we knew, when we moved from the Bradshaw Tavern, and at a stretch, until the name was changed to the Ivy House
Let's focus on us, all being together again.
We are all so aware that many of those who participated on and off the field are sadly, no longer with us, though we know they will be looking down and cheering us on. They will never be forgotten.
We will remember them.
